Sublimation Training

Welcome to the Sublimation Training page!

Please make sure that you have completed the Makerspace Safety Training  before beginning the machine-based trainings.

What is Sublimation?

Sublimation refers to the process of transferring dye onto materials—typically polyester fabrics or coated surfaces—using heat and pressure to turn the dye directly from a solid into a gas without passing through a liquid phase. This technique is popular among makers for creating custom designs on items like t-shirts, mugs, mousepads, and phone cases. In a makerspace setting, sublimation offers a hands-on, creative outlet that combines digital design with practical fabrication skills, allowing users to produce vibrant, durable, and professional-quality items. The process involves using a sublimation printer, special inks, and a heat press, making it an accessible yet powerful tool for both hobbyists and entrepreneurs.
