What is a Makerspace?
- A Makerspace is a place in which people with similar interests, especially in computer, technology, and crafting, can gather to work on projects while sharing ideas, equipment, and knowledge.
How can I join the Makerspace?
- The Makerspace is open to all Middletown Library cardholders ages 9 and up. After completing one training on the machine of your choice, you will be a Makerspace member! **A training is required with each machine in the Makerspace**

Can my child use the Makerspace?
- Children ages 9 and up are allowed to attend trainings and use the Makerspace. Children between the ages of 9 and 15 are required to attend trainings with their parent/guardian who must also be present with the child during any future Makerspace appointments. Teens between the ages of 16-17 are allowed to use the Makerspace by themselves with their parent’s permission.
- Adults using the Makerspace may not bring children into the Makerspace who have not attended a Makerspace training.
Can I use my own materials in the Makerspace?
- For most of the machines within the Makerspace, you are allowed to bring your own materials. See the list below for machines that require staff approval of materials.
- 3D printers – use of Makerspace materials only
- Laser cutter – patron materials allowed with approval of the Makerspace Librarian. All materials must be submitted with original packaging.
- Sublimation materials – please provide proof that your materials (mugs, keychains, etc.) are sublimation ready before use in the Makerspace.
- For most of the machines within the Makerspace, you are allowed to bring your own materials. See the list below for machines that require staff approval of materials.
Do I have to pay to use the Makerspace?
- Use of the Makerspace machines and tools are free to use for Makerspace members. Fees will be applied to the following items:
- Apparel and merchandise from the Makerspace (shirts, mugs, etc.)
- Sublimation ink ($1.50 per sheet).

What are the differences between trainings and classes?
- Trainings are required before patrons are allowed to use any machine. During trainings, patrons will learn how the machine works, safety protocols, software training, and learn about the type of projects best suited for that machine.
- Classes are where Makerspace members who have attended trainings will be able to learn specific skills for different machines (ex. T-shirt design, 3D print design, laser cutting projects for the holidays, etc.).
When can I use the Makerspace?
- Makerspace Open Hours are available on our calendar here. Hours are subject to change.
Can I donate materials or equipment to the Makerspace?

Can I bring a guest to the Makerspace?
- Yes! You are welcome to bring a guest during our open hours to view the room. However, bringing a guest during your appointment time or while you are working within the Makerspace is prohibited.
