Much has changed in the past century. Where we once provided service to fewer than 6,000 residents, today we circulate more than 400,000 items per year, roughly 23 materials per Middletown household!
In celebration of 100 years of service to the community, the Free Public Library of the Township of Middletown, in the County of Monmouth is honoring our legacy by creating a dedicated history room that will:
- Securely house many of our town’s important documents and artifacts.
- Introduce advanced technology to view the past and prepare for our future.
- Create a dedicated space to build and expand a business resource center.
The history and technology center will add new seating and access to Middletown’s historical documents. Patrons will view displays of historical town artifacts, attend programs, and utilize advanced technology to peek into our past documents while adding new enhancements such as
virtual and augmented reality to explore our world.
Be a part of history by honoring the past and building our future. The Free Public Library of the Township of Middletown, in the County of Monmouth is asking for you to help us build our new history and technology center. Monetary donations to the Free Public Library of the Township of Middletown, in the County of Monmouth are tax deductible within the limits of the law. We are a 170(c)(1) government entity. No goods or services of any value were or will be provided to the donor by the Free Public Library of the Township of Middletown, in the County of Monmouth exchanged for this gift. All monetary donations are acknowledged with a thank you letter from the director that should be kept for your tax records.

The newly formed free library opened its doors on June 4, 1921. Circulation for 1921-22 was 34,864 items. Middletown Township Public Library was the first New Jersey library to provide service with a Model A bookmobile to the 40-square-mile rural community of less than 6,000 residents.
